I have seen this book around a lot and I decided that I needed to give it a try, and wow am I ever glad that I did! A gender bent Scarlet Pimpernell with witches, magic, enemies to lovers and secret identities? I’m in.
The way that clues are tucked so neatly into this story are brilliant. Subtle mentions suddenly become large parts of unlocking the mystery.
Rune is a witch, she was forced to turn in her adopted grandmother to save herself and now repays that debt by saving as many witches as she can. And working against her is the boy she has hated since the day they met, Gideon. Using her flirtatious mask doesn’t seem to work on Gideon the way it does on other men, so Rune plays a more dangerous game, and this time not only is her life on the line, but so is her heart.
I cannot wait for book 2 to come out in 2025. I think things are going to get even more intense.
