The Invocations ~ Krystal Sutherland

Krystal Sutherland is back with another YA horror about three girls. I still think about House of Hollow all the time and recommend it a lot. So when I saw that she had a new book out I ran to my library to grab a copy.

We meet three girls, strangers, but tied together by death and demons. Emer, the wild witch, has lost everything and spends her life trying to give women the power to survive. Jude has been exiled for her family due to playing with the occult and things going terribly wrong. Zara’s entire world has crashed around her after the loss of her sister.

The girls are brought together when they realize that a series of murders are linked in a way that the police will never uncover. The girls decide to join forces and try and stop the killings before they are next on the list.

I love Sutherland’s writing style. You are sucked into the world (maybe a bit against your will) and witness things that go bump in the nigh, and of course we have strong women who fight and claw their way through the horrors that await them.

Men can’t use this power themselves. The only way they can access it is by stealing it from women. By cutting it out of them”

I highly recommend The Invocations if you love reading about strong female characters and the types of subject that may make you want to leave a light on in the night. This is a YA novel but I would suggest upper levels as it does deal with occult, assault, murder and contains some language.
