No Rest for the Wicked ~ Rachel Louise Adams

Thank you to Minotaur Books for sending me an ARC of No Rest for the Wicked in exchange for my honest review.

Wow. I was excited to read a spooky Halloween type book this fall and I was really blown away by how deep and dark this book got. If you were expecting a silly whodunnit murder mystery, brace yourself because there is so much more to this story and plot.

Delores hasn’t set foot in her hometown in 18 years and now being back is bringing up memories she long buried and forgot about. Faces and voices of the past haunt her as she tries to help the FBI uncover who would have kidnapped her former Senator father in the days leading up to the town’s favourite holiday, Halloween.

Many trigger warnings in this one so please take care of yourself before diving in if needed.

***** SPOILER ALERTS ****

I knew it was Teddy as soon as it was mentioned that the boys looked alike but Junior coming back to town was NOT on my radar at all. What a wild ride. I feel like Kate Butcher could have played a larger role if she would have just let herself feel a bit more kindness, but I also get where she was coming from in feeling like an outsider her whole life. The cat rescue makes up for her prickly attitude.

I would love to peek at what happens to Paul and Delores in the future. If they start to work more closely together. I don’t think much surprises Delores but the way that Paul played into his charm and swagger without that being his true identity really seem to shock her. I want there to be more about them in case Rachel is looking for sequel advice 😉
