If you have been here for any length of time you know that I will read a retelling of nearly anything. The dark fairy tale loving girl of my youth has never left me.

This is a retelling of the Brothers Grimm “The Goose Girl” story, which there are quite a few interpretations out there in film, poetry and other books.

Cordelia’s mother is odd. She knows this. She also knows that she is not like other children. Her mother has the ability to make her obedient for hours on end and Cordelia is quite certain other children are not locked inside of their own body without the ability to move on their own.

Unfortunately, Evangeline but find a new benefactor to provide her with means, so she ventures off on her glowing white horse, Falada, to catch herself a man. This is how we are introduced to the Squire and his sister Hester, and thus follows an exciting adventure of how to prove sorcery, becoming friends with the most unlikely of people, and choosing a family from those who are dear to you.

I love Kingfisher’s writing and was happy to grab this one at my local library. If you would like to purchase a copy for yourself, please click this link.
