Beautiful Ugly ~ Alice Feeney

Reviewed by Dusti

First let me start off by saying that I will basically read anything that Alice Feeney writes. One of my favourite books of all time is Daisy Darker and I have been waiting for another book with the same vibes. And here she is!!!

One year ago Grady’s wife went missing and he has been grieving and unable to sleep or write since. His agent has a cabin on an island that is the perfect place to find peace and write his next book to try and save his career. But the island is strange in a lot of ways and Grady finds that there is something not quite right about not only the island, but also the people. And suddenly, he sees his missing wife everywhere he looks.

What an incredible book. Feeney is able to bring to life a misty and lonely Scottish island that you feel like you could follow the map around to all the points of interest. The characters are perfectly drawn to make you want to look behind the curtain and see what they are really hiding. Grady’s slow descent into either insomnia induced madness or actually losing his mind was so enjoyable to read and reminded me why Feeney is one of my favourite authors.
