If you have been here a while then you know my love of horror and vampires. And Rachel Harrison. The way she writes … it’s gorgeous.
I grabbed So Thirsty the second it was available to me and I absolutely loved it.
Not only do we have the horror that a vampire novel brings, with it’s sexy dark characters and forbidden exploits, So Thirsty also dives into the horror of what it means to be an aging woman and the invisibility that comes with being over a certain age bracket
“I was so preoccupied lamenting my invisibility as a woman getting older, I did’t realise it could be weaponised. I didn’t realise it’s part of our power, no one thinking we have any” [Chapter 19]
Sloane is living her life on autopilot. She allows life to happen to her and is a spectator of the events going on around her. These include her job, her cheating husband and her love of her Dyson vacuum.
A weekend girls trip with her best friend Naomi might be just the thing she needs to shake her awake and enliven her, or maybe just the opposite. Meeting a mysterious group of people might just be the biggest mistake of their lives, or give Sloane the excuse she need to come into her own power and allow herself to experience life at full force rather than feeling the anxiety of potential consequences hanging over her every move.
This horror novel is a champion of women and female friendships. The love we have for those women in our lives who hold us up and bring us to the light. Who hold our youth in their memories and allow us to age into who we need to become. I am completely in love with this book and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
