Ohhhhhh I loved this book. Easy 5 stars. So great.

Josie is at a pub celebrating her 45th birthday when she realises that the woman, Alix, at another table is also celebrating her 45th birthday. What starts off as commenting on being Birthday Twins, turns into a strange relationship. Josie decides that she wants to unload secrets she has been carrying around and Alix finds herself intrigued and creating a podcast around Josie’s story.

I had a plan to read this book over four days. I could not do it. I had to read it in less than 24 hours. I could not stop thinking about it, I kept picking it up to keep reading, it was that great.

I love a good thriller with twists and this book absolutely delivers so many good twists and turns. Just when I thought that I had figured it out, another secret would fall out.

Now that ending – holy what!?!? Was Josie once again twisting the truth to fit her own narrative? Or were her memories actually what happened? Was she covering for Roxy? Personally, I think that once again she was changing the story in her own mind to make herself a victim in the story, not willing to ever think that she has ever done anything wrong.

After finding out that Walter wasn’t actually as much of a creep as she made out, I still think that he is a problematic character. He is not innocent. He may not have groomed her from 13 but she was still a child when they started their sexual relationship. His first wife was 10 years younger than him and they started dating in his late 20’s, so we are looking at 16-18 & 26-28. That still creeps me out. Why is a grown man interested in a teenage child?

The conversation about feminism was interesting. Can a woman claim to be a feminist when she has a husband and children? My opinion is yes. A woman today has the choice, thank you for our feminist movement. We are not only expected to marry and make babies. We have the choice if we want a career, a baby, and a husband or some combination. The freedom to choose and upholding the rights of other women to choose is what makes us a feminists. In my opinion.
