Pretty Boys are Poisonous ~ Megan Fox

Reviewed by Dusti

I grabbed a copy from my local library because of course I had to see what Pretty Boys are Poisonous was all about. I feel like unless you’re really careful about what you even look at online, you have to have a glimmer of the dramatic relationships that Fox has been involved in over the years. From dating/marrying a much older man which became a turbulent tabloid fever dream to now being with someone who wears her blood and she calls her twin flame (major red flag btw), I have a morbid curiosity to know about these “celebrities” and find myself reading article after article. I am fully part of the problem.

Anyways. I wanted to see what Megan wrote and uh… it’s a book. I am not sure how to really even review it. These poems are dark and full of some pretty intense accusations. Either this is a major cry for help and we need to get the Free Brittney movement involved to save this woman and her children, or she took a lot of creative license and is using claims of abuse as a way to hype up her book and make money. Either way, I am concerned. I feel that a lot of the things that she is talking about she has glamourized and there will be a new crop of women who stay with abusive men because it has been romanticized that “love is supposed to hurt.” Which is absolutely not true. You should NEVER be abused by the one who claims to love you. As man hating as a lot of the poems appear to be, she still talks about her obsession with her poisonous men/man and it’s quite disturbing.

Every woman deserves to be safe, happy and healthy. I would prefer to be alone on my own than to ever stoop to some man’s desire to break me. Megan, I hope you’re safe and I hope your children are safe. I hope that the young women that read your words don’t idolize the idea of being in a toxic and dangerous relationship because you have packaged it in a shiny hardcover with gorgeous artwork.
