This is the sequel to Moon of the Crusted Snow, so if you have not read that yet, please be advised there will be spoilers for that book here.

It has been 12 years since the lights went out. Evan has survived and moved his family and other community members into the bush away from their town on the reservation. They are living off the land and returning to more of their Anishinaabe traditions. After being in the same settlement for 10 years, it is becoming clear that they need to move on from where they are. Thus begins a journey with Evan and his teenage daughter Nangohns, and several others to journey south back to the land of their ancestors.

This book is incredible. I was in love with the first book and so happy to see the second book come out. It is such a cool point of view of an apocalypse story, being a Canadian location and indigenous people, including their story of how their ancestors were pushed into the northern lands away from their homes. There is so much we need to acknowledge and learn about our history as a country, and this was an entertaining way to be reminded of those stories.
