These Violent Delights ~ Chloe Gong

I feel like I could write an entire essay on this book. There is so much going on.

“The most dangerous people are the powerful white men, who feel as if they have been slighted”

Juliette is actually dreadful, but I think she believes that the only way that she will ever been taken seriously as the female heir to the Scarlet Gang, is to be the most cold-blooded, callous and bloodthirsty killer. Her mother is as much the head as her father, but it is in a behind the scenes role. The women are not in charge. I honestly was just surprised that none of the staff had tried to poison her tea at some point with how rudely she treats everyone.

There are so many great quotes I could fill this entire space just with my favourites. I enjoyed that our main characters are not heroes. They just happen to not be the worst of the worst in a broken and bleeding city full of crime and upheaval. We could talk at length about the unionization of workers but let’s just leave it at I was obsessed with the retelling of Romeo & Juliet in such an interesting and fantastical way!
