I have watched maybe 1.25 episodes of The Real Housewives franchise, but a friend of mine informed me that I HAD to read Bad Mormon by Heather Gay from the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. I was intrigued. What could this self proclaimed “bad Mormon” write that I hadn’t read before? Wow. There are so many parts of this book that could have been lifted from my own personal diary. Growing up in a high demand religion is an experience that, if you know, you KNOW. Reading about how Heather woke up and put her feet on “the cold tile floor” really resonated with me on a deep level. Being a “divorced Mormon” is a really weird group to be part of. I found myself connecting to her words so deeply. I cheered when she took her power and decided that she was ready to live her life on her own terms and not diminish herself small enough to to fit in the Church’s mold.
There’s a lot of insight not only into growing up in the religion but also behind the scenes of how Heather was cast into the Real Housewives. I might actually go watch an episode after I upload this review.
