Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have rated this a 4.5 out of 5 (bumped up to 5 on Goodreads)

This book is absolutely spellbinding. I went into it totally blind as it was a bookclub choice that I knew nothing about beforehand and I am so happy that I read it.

I had many lovely moments reading Under the Whispering Door – as well as a few good chuckles. What is life all about? What happens after we die? Where do we go? What is the point of it all? Do all dogs go to heaven? So many big questions that were handled in a fun but poignant way.

Wallace is the worst, he dies and less than a handful of people attend his funeral. He is very grouchy to find that he is wearing the flip flops that he died wearing, this little tidbit brought me quite a few giggles.

The whole cast of characters are these amazing pieces of a large puzzle that works together for a greater good. And we discover that maybe death really is only the beginning and love cannot be bound, be it through race, gender and death. The relationship that grows out of the death of one man and the man who saves him is absolutely extraordinary and so beautifully written.

I would recommend to almost anyone to read this book and enjoy the lovely journey, as well as the stops along the way.
